About TraxworX

TraxworX was established in 2016 by two businessmen wanting to start something new on the African continent. A common goal resulting from a brainstorming session involving their shared passion for model trains, led to the establishment of a team of key people to investigate the feasability of setting up a state-of-the-art model train factory in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Idea

TraxworX will start out as a complete manufacturing solution to the model train industry.  With a world-class CAD facility, a precision Tool-Making workshop, a state-of-the-art Plastic Extrusion Moulding unit and a fully equipped Paint-Shop and Model Assembly Line, TraxworX will be able to take care of even the minutest detail through every step of the model production.

Business Units

  • TraxworX Design
  • TraxworX Tooling
  • TraxworX Extrusions & Die-casting
  • TraxworX Models

TraxworX Design

Using Dassault Systèmes Solidworks to design the tooling used in the production of model trains, our designers can simulate the flow of molten plastic through the injection mould and pinpoint hotspots, cold spots, and the need for extra injection points long before the toolmakers are even involved.

TraxworX Tooling

With the impresive list of equipment in the Toolroom including

  • CNC Milling Machines,
  • Lathes and
  • Spark Eroders,

we’re capable of rendering the finest detail on even an N-Scale 1:160 locomotive.

TraxworX Extrusions & Diecasting

In the Extrusions division, with 3 machines ranging from 80t to 200t, we’re able to produce not only the finely detailed shells for locomotives, wagons and coaches, but just about anything that requires an extrusion moulding machine.

Additionally, with our hot chamber die-casting and spin die-casting facilities, TraxworX is able to manufacture just about 90% of all the components of a model locomotive and about 95% of the components for wagons and coaches.

TraxworX Models

The models produced by TraxworX for the local market will focus on the typical South African trains dating from the old SAR & H and Transnet eras and some more modern equipment from the present.

These models will also be released to the international modeling fraternity through selected outlets in Germany and Poland.

TraxworX will also be manufacturing model trains for several international brands.
